Deciding What To Do
This is a very brief summary of what we’ve gleaned from books and articles and doesn’t go into the sort of depth that is possible in more specialist materials.
The “best” solution for you is exactly that – for you.
You need to talk to your GP and get his or her advice, taking account of your age, general health, use of other medication and the severity of your symptoms.

I think I am post men. not had period for 8 years I am 55, very active with golf and gym. I take many supplements Biocare but up to last year I went on HRT patches due to hective year of wedding of daughter and I was feeling like 2 people inside, low esteem, no libido, anxious. I felt better I think was only on them for 5 months but in November because on holiday and hot weather and patches kept coming off left them off. I now have hot flushes again about 2 in the day not bad but more at night which keep me awake and hard to get back to sleep, go hot and tingly and then cold, no libido at all and generally fed up because of such, my eyes are dry so I am putting drops in. What do you suggest as I am tempted to go back on patches but know that it only delays the process, but somewhere you have to have a quality of life! I await your help

Hi Melanie,
Thanks for your post on Embrace the Change.
We’re pleased that you’ve found the site useful.
It sounds like you are having quite a time of it! I’m afraid we can’t give advice regarding specific cases but it sounds like you need to decide whether to go back on to HRT or not.
Generally HRT isn’t supposed to delay the symptoms of the menopause but to reduce them – so by taking HRT you aren’t in some way “putting off the inevitable”. If you don’t want to take HRT then we do have a variety of phyto soya products which may help, as well as wicking bedding and nightwear which would help with the nightsweats.
We’d suggest you think about getting some more advice from your GP on the way HRT works and you might like to visit http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/oestrogens.php which has more information on HRT and its effects.
Best wishes from us all at Embrace the Change
