Nidraa

Nidraa Home Page

Nidraa is a US business based in Delaware. It was founded by Smita Kasat after she had suffered night sweats during pregnancy.

“The idea for launching Nidraa came to me while I was pregnant with our newly born son, Atharv. My due date was August, so I knew that I would be most uncomfortable at the end of my pregnancy in the midst of the long, hot summer.

I knew that the combination of the normal hormonal changes and the heat of the summer would cause night sweats, but being my first pregnancy I had no clue to the severity of the problem. I knew that once the baby was born getting a good night’s sleep would be difficult, but did not realize I would suffer from sleep deprivation prior to his awaited arrival. The combination of the extra weight I was carrying and the heat made it impossible to enjoy a deep, sound sleep.

My husband gave me a piece of fabric that I sewed up into a sheet and pillow cover. He assured me that this patented product, Dri-release®, designed for use by high endurance athletes to help keep them dry and comfortable would be an ideal solution. Well, he was right! I slept like a baby!

My experience led me to believe that there is a real need for these products. Anyone who has ever experienced night sweats, whether due to pregnancy, menopause, disease or drug therapy, will appreciate the comfort of Dri-release®. The product is genuine in its claims and comfortable beyond measure. I didn’t want to keep this a secret so I am sharing my new found relief with you, so…. Choose Right – Sleep Well.”

Nidraa™ in Sanskrit means state of deep sleep.

Optimer’s Dri-release®, uses a patented blend of natural and synthetic fibers. The natural fibers absorb moisture pulling it off the skin and into the fabric. Synthetic fibers repel moisture, forcing it through to the surface of the garment where it evaporates quickly as airflow moves across the fabric. So, Dri-release® moves sweat and moisture from the skin, through the fabric and releases it into the air faster than 100% cotton, faster than any other performance fabric.

Baumberger

Baumberger homepage

Baumberger is based in Billerbeck, a rural part of northern Germany. It was founded in 1992 with the aim of producing quality bedding from organic and sustainable materials.

Baumberger bedding is still made entirely of organic materials to the highest quality specification and is owned and run by its founders.

It is one of the few businesses in this sector to have achieved the standards required by SKAL (Control Union) in order to be awarded the “EKO Sustainable Textile” certification

Baumberger wool products are made from the highest quality organic wool with organic cotton covers.

Baumberger wool bedding is the best available.

Bedding made with wool promotes dry and comfortable warmth all night long due to its hollow water-thirsty fibres ability to efficiently wick away sweat.

On average, through perspiration and breathing, an adult can lose up to a pint of water vapour during a normal night of sleep. Menopausal women can lose even more than that!

If you or your mattress feels damp or clammy it is likely you will toss, turn or awaken. Wool can absorb up to 30% of its own weight in moisture (10 times as much as synthetics) without showing signs of dampness. And with the proper care, captured moisture is released back into the air.

If wool bedding is regularly aired, it will not require washing due to wool’s natural self-cleaning effect.

Wool - why it works

Sheep

It seems really strange to suggest that wool, a fabric we associate with keeping warm in winter, could help to keep you cool and dry when suffering from night sweats - but it does.

And this is why.

Imagine yourself in bed and suffering from sweats! Hopefully you’re using wicking nightwear and sheets, so the moisture is being moved from your skin and released into the air - but where is that air??

It’s on the other side of a mattress or a duvet - so how does the moisture get out?

Well, the answer is that it doesn’t.  Normal polyester, and particularly feather / down, fills in duvets and pillows are not good at absorbing and moving moisture. So you are left with a damp pillow, duvet or mattress. Soon this feels pretty bad too.

But wool has an amazing property! Because of its hollow fibres it can actually store up to 30% of its own weight in moisture, still feel dry and continue to allow air to pass through.

So, although you might not think so, wool is a great fabric for absorbing moisture and then releasing it gradually into the air. It works really well with wicking duvet covers, and in pillows and underblankets, to absorb moisture between you and your mattress.

In effect wool duvets, pillows and underblankets allow the moisture to escape from around you, hold it and then gradually releases it back into the air. If you allow them to air during the day they’ll be back to normal by the evening. If wool bedding is regularly aired, it will not require washing due to wool’s natural self-cleaning effect.

As well as this wool acts to provide a “personal” temperature control. Because wool’s natural fibres ‘breathe’, they adapt to each individual’s body temperature. This breathability, makes wool ideal for couples who require different levels of warmth, as each remains at their own perfect temperature.

To top it all our wool products from Baumberger are certified organic and are manufactured from renewable resources - so this is an environmentally friendly route to take as well!

We do sell Climarelle duvets and pillows which have similar properties - but wool holds more moisture (and is a natural fibre). It is, of course, a bit more expensive.

Without proper bedding with the ability to absorb moisture, a high body humidity level can raise heart rate and blood pressure.
