Feel it- wear it- love it. Experience the Cashmere touch

Sleepfresh

How it works?

Bamboo fabrics often refered to as “Nature’s Cashmere” are incredibly soft, smooth and comfortable with great drape and luxurious feel.

  • DRY: Incredible natural breathability, very high absorbency qualities, “wicks” away sweat and instantly evaporates, does not stick to your skin, 4 times more absorbant than Cotton.
  • FRESH: Naturally antibacterial and antifungal, Hygenic, Naturally eliminating odours.
  • COOL: Naturally cool to the touch, fibre structure means constant ventilation, rapid moisture absorbtion and evaporation.
  • COZY: Natural thermal qualities, cool when you are hot- warm when you are not.

Care:

Bamboo fabrics can be washed normally and will retain their properties over many wash cycles. Although fabric conditioners will not harm your garment they may reduce the performance of the fabric. Softeners and conditioners merely coat the fibres with chemical waxes which inhibit absorbency and breathability

Mini Chillow – relief from Hot Flushes and Night Sweats you can carry with you!

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Mini Chillow, stocked at embracethechange.com, is the instant cooling, soothing pad that fits in your bag.

The Mini Chillow is the travel bag essential. Pack it in your bag and it will stay cool and dry (providing you don’t leave it out in the sun!) – always ready to deal with Hot Flushes and Night Sweats, whether in a plane or train or in your hotel room.

Mini Chillow is a small (32x21cm) pad, just 2cm thick, that contains a patented foam core within a medical grade, hypoallergenic, latex-free covering.

The pad is activated by pouring ordinary tap water into the special valve on the back of the pad. The water is totally absorbed by the foam core and when all the air is gently expelled to create a vacuum, the water within the pad cools.

For EXTRA coolness, Mini Chillow can be put in the fridge and kept until it’s needed.

Place the Mini Chillow on top of a conventional pillow, or just inside the pillow case, as a cooling sleep aid. It works by reducing body temperature and inducing sleep naturally – ideal for sultry nights under tropical skies or overheated hotel bedrooms.

The body needs to lose heat in order to sleep and this is done mainly through the head and face. If the body can’t lose sufficient heat to cool itself, sleep can be disrupted.

Mini Chillow works on the principle that water conducts heat away from the body 25 times faster than air – which is why people feel cold when they come out of a swimming pool.

The patented internal core absorbs ordinary tap water. The Mini Chillow feels soothingly cool to the touch as it takes heat from the body and dissipates it into the air – just like a car radiator keeps an engine cool. The pad works without power, chemicals or refrigeration, and it is always soft, dry, cool and ready for use.

The Chillow Plus keeps you doubly cool

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Stocked at embracethechange.com the Chillow Plus uses the same patented technology as the original Chillow but offers even more comfort….double the comfort, in fact!

Unlike the single-sided original Chillow, Chillow Plus uses a new hydro-soothe membrane on both sides of the 2cm thick pad to provide cooling, soothing, sleep-inducing comfort.

For those people who habitually turn the pillow at night to find a cool spot, Chillow Plus is the ideal solution.

Chillow Plus is designed to rest on a conventional pillow or slip inside the pillow case. It works by taking heat away from the body to prevent overheating and to maintain the right temperature for deep, restful sleep. Anyone who finds they are too hot in bed at night, suffers from hot flushes, restless leg syndrome, fever or headaches will discover the cooling sensation of sleeping on Chillow Plus soothes and relaxes, helping them get to sleep (sometimes for the first time in many years).

How does the Chillow Plus work?

The body needs to lose heat in order to sleep and this is done mainly through the head and face. If the body can’t lose sufficient heat to cool itself, sleep can be disrupted.

Inside the medical grade, hypoallergenic covering is a highly absorbent patented inner core which is moistened with ordinary tap water and sealed. The Chillow Plus works very simply on the principle that water conducts heat away from the body 25 times faster than air. The water cools the pad to between 10 and 20°C below body temperature. When you lay your head on the pad, heat conducts away from the body into the Chillow Plus and then back out into the air, similar to the way a radiator works in a car.

After a few hours’ use, the upper side of the Chillow Plus will have absorbed some of the body’s heat….time to turn it over and discover a refreshingly cool side. Should it need to be turned again during the night, the underside will have once again returned to its original cool state.

Once activated, Chillow Plus will keep on working, so it’s always ready for use. It needs no pre-cooling – it simply returns to room temperature during the day. It is always ready to use, dry, soft and cool.

The new Chillow Plus has an optional extra to make it even more comfortable – rubber feet and Velcro fixings to ensure it stays in place on the pillow throughout the night.

The Chillow is a cooling pad which provides instant relief for Hot Flushes and Night Sweats

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

For the 75% of perimenopausal women who experience the distress and discomfort of hot flushes and night sweats the Chillow, sold at embracethechange.com, provides an answer.

Women who talk about their experience of menopause don’t usually confess to having enjoyed it. More likely, they are only too ready to share the untold indignities it visits on the female body. Weight gain, fatigue, fuzzy memory, depression, sleeplessness and – worst of all – night sweats and hot flushes.

Persistent waves of flushing and profuse perspiration tend to make life a total misery. Just ask any woman who is going through her menopause years. Don’t, however, say ‘It’s your age, dear’ or you are likely to be on the receiving end of a swiftly applied punch in the eye. Irritability and mood swings are another feature of The Change.

No respecter of the need to work or sleep, hot flushes strike at any time of the day or night. Some very unlucky women get them as often as once an hour; others, a mere couple of times a week. The flush lasts between a few seconds and 10 minutes (the average is around four minutes) and can continue for up to five years.

Real relief from the symptoms is very hard to find. Hormone replacement therapy usually stops them, but once HRT ceases, menopause symptoms start again where they left off. Many women do not wish to embark on HRT and for them herbal remedies may be helpful in alleviating the worst of the flushing and sweating, including black cohosh, sage and dong quai.

But when you are lying in bed, dripping with perspiration, wrestling with damp night clothes and sheets, disturbing your partner every time you throw off the duvet to find some relief, herbal remedies are far from your mind. What you want is something that will immediately cool your burning face, take away the fierce heat that is consuming your body and bring your temperature back to normal.

This is where the Chillow excels.

How the Chillow Works

Chillow is exactly what is sounds like – a chilled pillow. It is a thin, cushioned pad that lies on top of a normal pillow or inside the pillowcase. It is designed to take heat away from the body and keep you cool throughout the night.

Inside the medical grade, hypoallergenic, non-toxic covering is a highly absorbent pad which is moistened with exactly four pints of ordinary tap water and sealed. The Chillow works very simply on the principle that water conducts heat away from the body 25 times faster than air. (Just think of how cold you feel as soon as you climb into a swimming pool.) The water cools the pad to between 10 and 20°C below body temperature. When you lay your head on the pad, heat conducts away from the body into the Chillow and then back out into the air, similar to the way a radiator works in a car.

Chillow needs no pre-cooling – it returns to room temperature during the day. It is always ready to use, dry, soft and cool.

By helping your body lose heat, the Chillow induces sleep naturally – no pills or potions, just a non-invasive pad that works in harmony with your body’s natural rhythms. Chillow is soothing, soft and tactile – an environmentally sound ‘alternative’ sleep therapy that brings instant relief, just when you need it most.

Wool – why it works

Sheep

It seems really strange to suggest that wool, a fabric we associate with keeping warm in winter, could help to keep you cool and dry when suffering from night sweats – but it does.

And this is why.

Imagine yourself in bed and suffering from sweats! Hopefully you’re using wicking nightwear and sheets, so the moisture is being moved from your skin and released into the air – but where is that air??

It’s on the other side of a mattress or a duvet – so how does the moisture get out?

Well, the answer is that it doesn’t.  Normal polyester, and particularly feather / down, fills in duvets and pillows are not good at absorbing and moving moisture. So you are left with a damp pillow, duvet or mattress. Soon this feels pretty bad too.

But wool has an amazing property! Because of its hollow fibres it can actually store up to 30% of its own weight in moisture, still feel dry and continue to allow air to pass through.

So, although you might not think so, wool is a great fabric for absorbing moisture and then releasing it gradually into the air. It works really well with wicking duvet covers, and in pillows and underblankets, to absorb moisture between you and your mattress.

In effect wool duvets, pillows and underblankets allow the moisture to escape from around you, hold it and then gradually releases it back into the air. If you allow them to air during the day they’ll be back to normal by the evening. If wool bedding is regularly aired, it will not require washing due to wool’s natural self-cleaning effect.

As well as this wool acts to provide a “personal” temperature control. Because wool’s natural fibres ‘breathe’, they adapt to each individual’s body temperature. This breathability, makes wool ideal for couples who require different levels of warmth, as each remains at their own perfect temperature.

To top it all our wool products from Baumberger are certified organic and are manufactured from renewable resources – so this is an environmentally friendly route to take as well!

We do sell Climarelle duvets and pillows which have similar properties – but wool holds more moisture (and is a natural fibre). It is, of course, a bit more expensive.
